Spring has sprung and with it comes a full set of new home maintenance requirements. Here you'll find some tips to help keep your home looking great and operating properly!
INTERIOR:
- Check heat recovery ventilator (HRV); ensure to replace filters every 3 – 6 months or as required
- Regularly check humidifier for potential leaks; replace humidifier filter (if applicable)
- In the first year, we recommend changing your furnace filter every month when living in an active construction zone. After this time, check monthly & replace your furnace filter as required.
- Test smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors
- Air out damp basements on dry, sunny days; run ventilation fans to circulate air
- Change thermostat battery
- Check & reset ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) plugs in bathrooms & main electrical panel
- If applicable, check sump pump to ensure it is in good working order
- Check basement mechanical; look for any leaks in hot water tanks, furnace, etc.
EXTERIOR:
- Clean out your window wells & swales
- Check eavestroughs & downspouts for any damage or obstructions; place downspouts down for proper drainage; clear out any debris if necessary
- Check for missing, damaged or loose shingles; a professional roofer may be required for closer inspection
- Check siding to ensure it is secure & for any damage
- Wash & seal driveway as per product recommendations and weather
- Turn on exterior taps; check for any leakage
- Check & reset ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) in exterior outlets
- Air intake should never be covered
