How Do I Winterize Hose Bibs?

Please Note: You will learn about the location and operation of your hose bibs at your Home Owner Orientation. You will also be reminded of this at your First Warranty Appointment.

During seasonal changes it is important to winterize your home and prepare it for the harsh Canadian elements. Below are our Excel Homes instructions on how to prepare your Hose Bibs for winter and spring. Your Warranty team recommends that you ensure that you understand how your Hose Bibs operates as soon as you move into your new Excel home.

Winter

  1. Turn off hose bib valve
  2. Go outside and open both hose bibs halfway
  3. Go back to hose bib valve and open bleeder cap until it starts to drip slowly, then open further once you see water coming out of bleeder cap (you will need a container that can hold up to 1.5 litres of water)
  4. Tighten bleeder cap when water stops coming out of cap

Spring

  1. Go outside and turn the hose bib off
  2. Ensure the bleeder cap is tight
  3. Turn valve on
  4. Turn on hose bib outside to test (water may spurt at this time but it is just air coming out of the water line and it will stop quickly)
