# How Do I Operate My Gas Fireplace?

***Please note:** You will learn about the location and operation of your fireplace and gas supply valves at your [**Home Owner Orientation**](https://info.excelhomes.ca/knowledge/what-is-involved-in-a-home-owner-orientation?hsLang=en). You will also be reminded of this at your **[First Warranty Appointment](https://info.excelhomes.ca/knowledge/first-warranty-appointment-timeline?hsLang=en)**. If you have an electrical fireplace, you can only operate it by turning it on and off.*

Before testing anything on your gas fireplace, **locate the gas supply switches in your basement which are marked with "Gas Shut Off" tags and make the sure they are turned on**. Then **check the fireplace pilot light and make sure it is lit**. Test your fireplace operation by turning on the switch on the wall.

If the gas fireplace doesn't ignite, **turn off the switch on the wall and then try it again**. If you are still having problems, please [**contact your Warranty Specialist**](https://info.excelhomes.ca/knowledge/how-do-i-contact-the-warranty-department?hsLang=en) within the first year of warranty.
